A Message from the PTA President
Greetings everyone, Spring has finally sprung and it's great to see everything in bloom and to watch children playing outside and riding their bikes to school. It certainly has a way of making us all feel alive again. Believe it or not, the end of the school year is very close and we are preparing for next year. By the time you read this we will have had our first joint Board meeting with the Potowomut School. We are all looking forward to meeting them and hearing their ideas and suggestions about what has worked well (and not so well) for them. It's always nice to have a new perspective and new ideas. I know you will all join me in welcoming the Potowomut neighborhood to Cedar Hill in the coming months. I would like to give a great big thank you for all who supported the Washington Trust Peanut Butter Drive for the RI Community Food Bank. Once again, Cedar Hill students rose to the challenge and in very short notice (5 days!!!) collected 217 jars of peanut butter. That's over 3,500 sandwiches to feed the hungry. Mrs. Amerantes' class won the McDonald's lunch, and boy did they enjoy it. Again, pat yourselves on the back for a job well done and thank you for your participation. Speaking of good deeds, you all should have received an order form for a Feinstein Good Deeds sweatshirt. These are being offered to Cedar Hill for all the good we do, compliments of Mr. Feinstein. Don't forget to return your order form to school ASAP. Lastly, I hope to see you all at our next membership meeting to join me in welcoming the Potowomut families. This is an emotional transition for them and we can offer our support to make it as smooth as possible.
Sincerely,
JOIN CHAMPS!
What is CHAMPS? CHAMPS (formally known as Booster) was set up to raise money for our school. Most schools do fundraisers throughout the year by having their kids sell items like wrapping paper, candles, candy etc. This keeps our kids safe from NOT having to do door-to-door soliciting. Where does the money we raise go? The PTA collects the money and uses it throughout the year for such projects as: classroom supplies, extra science programs, in school presentations, art masters, Arts' night, teacher appreciation, library books, kindergarten and sixth grade graduations, children's school agendas, Friday folders, and more! How much and how often do I have to contribute? $50 is the suggested contribution per family, but each family can contribute more or less depending on their desire. Your contribution is strictly confidential. Please know that even a $10 contribution is appreciated. You only need to make one contribution per school year. How do I contribute to CHAMPS? At the 1st and 2nd PTA meetings of the year, there will be a table set up to collect checks made out to Cedar Hill PTA. After that you may send your contribution in to school with your child in an envelope marked "CHAMPS". Why may I be asked to make more donations throughout the year? You are only asked to contribute to CHAMPS once per year, but other fundraisers that are not covered by CHAMPS may arise. This includes money raised for non-PTA events such as Feinstein Good Deeds and for helping victims of unforeseen tragedies. What do I get for making a contribution? Once a month the PTA will pull a name for the each of the coveted parking spots that are marked for CHAMPS. Each contributor will receive two Cedar Hill Bucks. There may be other goodies given out to CHAMPS families throughout the year. You will also get the knowledge that your kids are not being asked to solicit money and peddle products. Is it tax deductible? Most likely your contribution is tax-deductible, but you need to check with your financial advisor. PLEASE remember this system will only continue to work if we all pull together. If not enough families contribute then we will have to return to the old ways of fundraising. Please make your contribution today.
